Hens are very little work. As long as they have some ground to scratch around in, plus plenty of food, they’re happy. Ours have been laying eggs every day which means that they’re happy, apparently. They eat kitchen scraps, apple peelings, cooked potatoes, lettuce leaves and even weeds from the garden.

The cats sit patiently on a nearby fence and watch. They wait, just hoping for a day when both they and the hens will be on the same side of the fence.
