The popular international festival of Halloween started in County Meath, at the Hill of Ward, where people traditionally celebrated the festival of Samhain. It was an end-of-year celebration and the belief was that the dead could escape from the afterlife in the cracks between the old year and the new.
The Spirits of Meath web site lists all kinds of things to do in all kinds of places for the Halloween period. If you’re in the neighbourhood, do drop in to Duffys of Ballybin self-catering for a visit.
